Capitol Hill, Washington, DC

The United States Capitol building, on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, was built at the exact center of the city.  From its base to the top of the dome where the statue of Freedom stands, this majestic building is 288 feet tall.  The dome was recently restored, and I was able to capture a photograph of Freedom with the steel girders underneath.  Around the Capitol and across to the Library of Congress, urns overflow with flowers; at night the Art Deco streetlamps illuminate the grounds.  The “Court of Neptune” fountain in front of the Library is rooted in and expands upon Capitol Hill’s classical architectural style.
